Patiala: Industrialists and businessmen of Patiala district have hailed the central government on approving the Rajpura industrial city, one of the 12 sites approved for smart industrial city projects under National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP). The project, approved at a cost of Rs 1,367 crores, and with an investment potential of Rs 7,500 crores for Rajpura alone, is expected to generate over 64,200 jobs. Around 1,099 acres of land has been acquired and fenced for the project in Rajpura, with focus areas comprising electronics system design, food and beverages, fabricated metal and chemicals, textiles, fabrics and apparels.
Rakesh Gupta, president of Patiala Vyopar Mandal, said, “It’s a good decision as it will not only generate employment, but will boost local business, including transport. Business related to manufacturing industry will flourish, and it will prove beneficial for entire Punjab, especially Patiala district. Besides, the government assistance will result in cheaper production”.
Dinesh Gupta, industrialist from Mandi Gobindgarh town of neighbouring Fatehgarh Sahib district, said, “The decision is undoubtable good, but without the state govt’s assistance, it may not be able to attract investors.”
Cabinet approves setting up of 12 industrial smart cities; gives nod to 4 other major projects
The Union Cabinet approved establishing 12 industrial smart cities with an investment of Rs 28,500 crore under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme, generating significant employment and boosting exports. Key expansions in agricultural infrastructure, FM radio services, and major railway and hydro projects were also sanctioned, aiming to drive growth and development across multiple sectors.
