PALAKKAD: The central government has announced 12 greenfield industrial smart cities to be implemented in the country. Industrial Smart City will come up in Palakkad. For this, the project cost is expected to be Rs 3806 crore. The Center has sanctioned a total of 28.602 crore projects. Center has given approval for all three railway corridors. The project will come up in Palakkad Pudusherry. It is adjacent to the Salem-Kochi National Highway.

Greenfield Industrial Smart Cities are coming up at Khurpia in Uttar Pradesh, Rajpura-Patiala in Punjab, Diggy in Maharashtra, Agra and Prayagraj in UP, Gaya in Bihar, Zaheerabagh in Telangana, Orwalkal and Koparti in Andhra Pradesh and Jodhpur-Pali in Rajasthan. Smart cities are coming up under the Vikasit Bharat scheme. Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced approval for the project in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.

The central government also expects an investment of 1.5 lakh crores in the project. The plan aims to create industrial cities rather than industrial parks. Apart from attracting foreign investment, the project also aims to create employment opportunities for the youth and increase local production.

The government envisions industrial cities where residential and commercial projects come together. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that 12 industrial parks will be allocated under the National Industrial Corridor Scheme in the last budget.
